Welcome to a chilly Saturday.
As you would know from last weeks newsletter I was in Sydney/Newcastle for the week previous. Being away from Tassie always serves as such a great reminder to me of how much I love our little corner of the world. I love the people, the slower lifestyle, less cars, less road rage, clean air, the weather, the cold, everything! I especially love to come home and look up at the mountain and see snow. We are so lucky.
Well being away for a week just means there is more to catch up on when I get back.
We finally have the new cool room up and running this week. We built the body of the room ourselves quite some time ago and have been patiently waiting for the shelves to be ready and for the electrics to be hooked up. Our good mate Bill is our electrician (and long time customer) and he got it all sorted for us on Wednesday, which we are all very excited about. Life will be a little easier now.
Fruit and Veg news
The First and most important apology is for the quality of the bananas this week. Unfortunately they were damaged by the cold and thus had some "graying". This is caused be excess time in refrigeration during transport and was completely out of our control..... We elected to include them anyway but reduced the price. Hope this is ok?
We were unable to supply purple sweet potato and only had green slicer cucumbers available for sale. We also ran short on spring onions, Elgaar butter, Roquette and baby cos lettuce. Leeks were unavailable and are unlikely for this week. The Blood oranges were unable to make it through quarantine this week, but i'm working on it for next week.
Well I love a good paw and I also love 2 good paw paws in quick succession, covered in lime juice. That’s what happened for me this week when the beautiful Red Paw Paw (Rose's, Lemon Springs,
It's a bit like a touch of summer.... With the pineapple still about, the paw paw showing up and we also have some Watermelon. You will need to keep and eye on the food miles with the watermelon as it comes all the way from Wilderness Farm,
Although the sweet potato was at a good price last week we were disappointed with the quality! We have moved over to some beautiful and super fresh (no marks) sweet potato from Ken and Lyndel Small, Cudgen,
Just a quick note to say that the Lady Bird baby spinach will be unavailable this week due to the cool weather slowing things down...... We should still have a limited supply of Yorktown Baby silverbeet and baby spinach.
Amy mentioned last week that Humphrey (Fat goose fruits,
Also check out Humphrey’s great Seville Oranges, traditionally used to make marmalade.
All the other Citrus varieties are still coming on strong with the Mandy’s being of exceptional value this week.
Labertouche organics (Jeff Brown, Labertouche, Vic) goodies are back on, Leeks might still be scarce for the next week or so but those incredible bunches of brightly colored Rainbow chard are back, along with big bunches of Boc and Pac Choy, and the Kale should be in plentiful supply.
Rob Conlan’s Boc Choy, although smaller than that coming from Labertouche is so fresh and crunchy and full of flavor, I’ve been eating it this week sautéed up with ginger, garlic and lime juice. They are a smaller price to at $2.95 per bunch.
Galangal and a fresh batch of Turmeric are due to arrive on Tuesday so I feel some warming curries and stir fries coming on.

Check out the great Australian Dried Apricots (nice and moist) and Dried Peaches that we have from Kevin and Cindy Legg.
We have extended our range of Pasta this week to include the Organic Casalare products. We choose this producer because of the excellent quality product that they produce and because they are a family owned Australian company.
