Welcome back to Saturday

The weeks just keep flying by….and the week gone has been another big one for us here at The All Organic Farm. This week saw us using The All Organic Farm’s new website based ordering system for the first time. Thanks for the great response and feedback. Please keep it coming. We really appreciate your ideas and contributions to making the site easier to use, after all we want to make ordering as convenient as possible.

We have elected to keep offering the excel list in a modified version with order form. We have seen the need to offer a no frills list for some of you with slower internet connections. We will upgrade this list to be more user friendly as time permits.

We have a couple of hints to help make ordering on the website easy!

  • You do not have to add each item 1 by 1. You can for example choose the items you would like by putting the relevant numbers in each of the items order box as you scroll down the page. Once you have selected each item and have finished on the page simply press enter or “add to cart”. This will add all the items you have selected from that page all in one go, instead of 1 by 1, meaning less time spent ordering as you do not have to wait for the page to reload for each item.
  • You can start an order and leave the website by shutting the page down or logging out. You can come back at anytime and the website will remember where you were up to. You can do this as many times as you like and the website will always remember where you were up to (even if your computer suddenly shuts down) You just have to make sure that you are logged in before you start ordering.
  • You can make up an order with a friend or group by starting an order under a shared login name leaving it unfinished so that your friend or others in the group can login and add what they would like to the order then finalise the order when everybody has completed their part of the order. You just have to make sure that you are logged in before you start ordering.

We have also installed our new POS system in the warehouse this week which will help us to process orders more efficiently, track accounts and generally speed up a process that had previously taken us 15hrs to pack all the orders on Wednesdays. We did make a few mistakes this week with invoicing whilst adjusting to the new system and we are very sorry for any inconvenience. If you have any queries about you invoice at anytime please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Fruit and Veg news
It’s been a really tough few weeks for fresh produce and this last week gone has been one of the toughest. Yorktown Organics (Yorktown, Tasmania) is one of our major suppliers and at late notice they informed us that they would not be picking this week because they did not have enough to harvest. This is just due to the cold weather they have been experiencing up around the Tamar. We have also faced the same issue with the Broccoli that usually comes from Forest hill farm (Forth, Tasmania)

With the cooler weather and slowing down of growth we are even seeing banana’s starting to run a little short on supply, which of course has pushed the price up. We have been in discussions with another Innisfail banana grower in the hope of securing a more consistent supply. In the meantime banana’s are back up to $4.50 kg. Still very reasonable for organic bananas especially considering a friend of mine in Queensland told me she could not buy Organic Banana’s in Brisbane for under $5kg……

The Watermelon coming from Wilderness Farms (John Etty, NT) is of outstanding quality. Super juicy crisp Organic Watermelon down to $3.95 kg.

We are expecting another consignment of Organic citrus from Humphrey Howie (Fat Goose fruits, Renmark, South Australia). The fantastic Dancy Mandarins are all over for this year and we are now on to the sensational Amigo’s. An Excellent eating mandy that peels well and separates into segments easily. Excellent flavour and a 50% juice content.

New to this weeks list are the beautiful bunches of Baby beetroot from Labertouche Organics (Jeff Brown, Labertouche, Victoria). These little guys come in good sized bunches with all their leaves still attached. Fantastic roasted whole with some cinnamon and sea salt (that’s right roast vegies and cinnamon!!!)

Also come from Labertouche this week is the abundance of fresh Chinese greens. We have some excellent quality Boc and Pac choi available.

The shortage of other vegetables at this time of year encourages me to be creative with some vegies that I wouldn’t use so often. Daikon is my pick of the week! This white skinned long (carrot like in shape) radish often over looked. I cut them into round stakes and scoop out a hole and fill it with Tamari, ginger and garlic. Then I steam them lightly and eat with miso soup, great for a Japanese inspired feast.

We are running a special this week on Terrance and Wendy Rattray's (Pyenganna, Tasmania) Pinkeyes. We need to move them out. They are still eating well and in firm condition. They are a great bargain and the cheapest of the potatoes this week at $2.50 kg.

We are blessed to have some of Morry Caffra's (Cafresco farm, Vic) outstanding globe artichokes. With nice big heads you get great value for money. Just peel them back, lightly steam and add a dollop of butter, garlic and salt to taste and heaven is yours.

Be sure to make the most of Will’s (Tassie blue/Sunday hill strawberry farm, Petcheys bay, Tas) frozen blueberries. It's seems as though Will has been holding out on us. He has had some blueberries in the freezer waiting for us all this time..... Lucky us. They are of course not a first grade fruit at such a low price but they are great for smoothies or cooking, Muffins, pancakes, cakes or just stir through some Elgaar farm yoghurt.
