Fruit and Veg news

A few apologies to start with. Due to the wonderful rain we have been having the days haven’t been warm enough to fully bring on a peak flush of strawberries and thus supply was limited last week. We ran short of honey murcott mandarins last week and we only a few kg’s in for this week. The Kale sprouts were a huge hit, but unfortunately we did not receive any last week. Sorry for the disappointment!

Great news for the stone fruit season. We are looking forward to having our first pick of Apricots and Nectarines this week. Grown by Sunripe Organic Orchards of Swan Hill, Victoria.

The Banana situation has tightened up and we are relying on a supply form Wholesalers in Melbourne this week. I have spoken to Sally from Island Coast Organics and she has promised to send us on a pallet of bananas for next week. So hopefully price and supply should be back to normal soon.

Lady fingers bananas are also a little scare so the price is up for them also.

The Tassie garlic season is finally underway and we have our first delivery coming from Wil of Tassie blue/Sunday hill strawberry farm. The Cloves are still a little moist as it is early and the garlic isn’t fully cured yet. But this make for some sweet garlic eating!

A great time of year to be a mushroom lover. We now have three varieties of mushrooms in stock!

Shitake mushrooms

Swiss browns

White buttons

SPECIAL SPECIAL SPECIAL! Local broad beans from Terry and Rob down in the Huon. It’s that time of year again, when we have broad beans coming out of our ears! The Price is down from $6.95kg down to $4.95kg.

Beautiful bunches of fresh French breakfast radishes will be available this week from Busch Organics, Hillside, Victoria.

This week we are running a special on Broccoli the price is down from $9.95kg down to $8.95kg.

The Navel orange season has finally closed out on us. We had a great run with excellent fruit right till the very end. We have now moved on to the new season Valencia oranges from Humphrey and Michelle Howie of Fat Goose fruits, Renmark, South Australia.

Humphrey and Michelle also have some late season heritage varieties of Mandarins in their orchard. They have picked and sent us just a few cartons of these mandys. The Variety is Kara and is an easy to peel, juicy mandy with a touch of tartness. Great value and great flavour.

We also have plenty of great quality Lebo cucumbers coming from the mainland and the price is down by nearly half. They are super fresh and the quality is fantastic.

Yorktown organics have released their latest product. Micro Salads – a mixture of their sprouts range packaged up in 80g bags. They are such a delicious combination.

We have been very impressed with the quality of the bunched curly parsley over the last few weeks and now is the time of year when we have it in abundance!

How about those kiwi fruit? They have been so popular and no surprises why? The flavor is excellent and they are such good value at .80c ea of 10 for $7.

Happy to Sunday

The weeks sure are flying by. I can’t believe that we are only 6 weeks away from Christmas! Then the start of a new year.

Christmas Delivery

We plan to pack orders on Tuesday 23rd of December to be delivered on Wednesday 24th (Christmas Eve) December, just in time for all of your Christmas lunch preparations! We will feed you more information on proceedings as time draws near.

We had a great time at the Sustainable living expo last weekend. So many great businesses and community groups in one place doing great things for the future. We had a fantastic response to our stall and the Elgaar farm cheese tasting was a huge hit.

It looks like we could be back on track for some normality with the Elgaar farm deliveries. Everything arrived safely on time last week! So we are looking forward to the same this week.

Website update

I have added a link that is great for those of you who like to order with out the pictures and extra info. You can get to the page by clicking the link Order form with out pictures . Fruit and Veg news

Last week was a really difficult week for produce. As is often the case at spring time. We were limited on some lines and others just didn’t arrive. Our apologies as we ran short of Broad beans, lemons, Cucumbers, mushrooms and Juicing carrots.

The Banana’s have been less than co operative. We have had a few issues getting bananas on time and thus getting them into ripen to be ready for your orders on Wednesdays. I have rectified the situation this week! Our bananas arrived nice and early and are in the Ripening room as we speak. So no more green banana’s this week!

Whilst on the topic of bananas – I spoke with Sally from Island Coast Bananas this week and she informed me that the price was on the way up! This is mainly to do with other growers in the area (Innisfail, North Queensland) running short on supply thus putting pressure on demand and forcing the price up. Hopefully this is only for a few weeks.

The Lady fingers have been excellent quality coming from Bruce Laing of Middle pocket, Northern NSW. The Price is excellent and quality fantastic.

The new season purple garlic has finally arrived. Everything about this garlic is great. The Bulbs are nice and big, the color is a lovely purple and the flavour is big!

We ran short on the broad beans last week, but have plenty more coming for this weeks orders! They are coming from Terry O’Neill of Wattle grove, and Rob Conlan of Huonville.

We have a great special running on small gold sweet potato from Graham and Jan Godfrey (Mutchilba, Qld). These little sweet potato are lovely and fresh and full of flavour. A great bargain at $3.95kg

It looks like we should have some Watermelons and Mini lee melons back on the menu this week!

The guys at Yorktown Organic have raised the bar again this week by adding a new line of sprouts. Russian Red Kale sprouts are a new addition. They are so yummy on a salad sandwich!

Well the alliums are sure coming thick and fast this week with the start of spring. We have some new season Red, Brown and White onions available.

Be sure to check out the excellent quality Zucchini starting to come out of Victoria. The quality has been somewhat hit and miss up until now.

We have some excellent Jonagold apples coming from Andrew Smith @ Raw orchards Grove. The Braeburns are now coming from Andrew also and the quality is far superior.

The Navel orange season is on its last legs…… We still have some excellent quality fruit coming from Jan Denham, Karra Organics, Palinyewah, NSW. The Loose navels are of excellent quality and loaded with flavour!

How about those kiwi fruit? They have been so popular and no surprises why? The flavor is excellent and they are such good value at .80c ea of 10 for $7.

Be sure to check out our special on Innovator potatoes, grown by The Benson Family of Forrest Hill farm, Forth Tasmania. The Innovator is relatively new variety of Potato, as the name would suggest. They are a great all-rounder though more suited to baking. They have an excellent flavor not dissimilar to a Kennebec and generally taste great!

We some great prices on some fabulous Bio Dynamic Eggs. From spring plains Bio Dynamic farm we can offer a dozen eggs at just $7.50 per dozen!

SPECIALS

Small gold sweet potato $3.95kg

Cavendish banana’s $4.50kg

Lady Finger bananas $5.95kg

Cooking Banana’s $2.50kg

Potato Innovator $2.95kg

Zucchini $8.50kg

Pineapple $6.95kg

Sweet potato gold $5.95kg

Spring plains BD eggs $7.50 per doz

Other news

We are fully stocked again with Brook-Kelly soft soaked prunes in 250g packets.

Quinoa is back in again in 12.5kg bulk bags and 500g prepacks. The price is slightly up as the Quinoa farming areas in South America where hit by some serious frosts which damaged large areas of crop.

Sunflower kernels are also back in. Finally!!

We have olive oil available in 20L drums if you are interested in Bulk buys. This offers significant savings on buying in 500ml bottles.

We also have some bulk Columbian coffee available in 2kg pressure sealed packs for $24.95 ea

All the corn chips are back in as well as blue corn variety. The blue corn still has a great taste with a novel color.

We fully stocked again with plenty of Maple syrup and Agave syrup. Perfect for those big Sunday morning Pancake cook ups.

The flavored Mungalli Creek Yoghurt verities have become so popular that we going to continue stocking and expanding the range. We now have:

Davidson Plum (native plum)

Mango

Rainforest honey

And Passion fruit.

Give them a try, you won’t be disappointed!

Unfortunately due to the drought conditions in Australia over recent times we have not had an organic/biodynamic rice crop produced for 2 years, this means that the stores we had built up over time are running out or have run out. We no Brown rice available and due to Biosecurity reasons, it is not possible to import brown rice into Australia from other countries without fumigation. Not an option for organic! We do still have limited quantities of Australian white rice and Koshi rice. We also have plenty of Basmati rice in stock.

Alright that is the lot of me this week.

Have a great weekend.

Greetings

What a busy week it’s been for us this week! With preparing for the Sustainable living expo and running our normal duties, not to mention that we had a record number of orders to pack this week!

The newsletter will be much shorter than usual this week as I have to head down to City hall to man our stall at the expo.

Sorry for the Lack of Elgaar farm products this week….. Once again we received a late phone call on Tuesday evening to say they were suffering mechanical malfunctions with some equipment and thus no production…. We will try again! The good news is we have some stocks of Elgaar Farm butter finally!

Still no sign of the baby from Amy and Cam. Not to long to go now! I will be sure to let you all know when the time comes.

Website update

We have been busily preparing to have a stall at this years Sustainable Living Expo to be held at Hobart’s Town Hall Next weekend 1st & 2nd November. We will be focusing on supporting local and Organic producers by show casing 6 of Tasmanian’s Finest Organic products. We will be offering free Elgaar Farm cheese tasting along loads of information and samples. This year’s expo promises to be bigger and better than ever with a record number of stall holders taking part. We hope to see you there.

Christmas Delivery

We plan to pack orders on Tuesday 23rd of December to be delivered on Wednesday 24th (Christmas Eve) December, just in time for all of your Christmas lunch preparations! We will feed you more information on proceedings as time draws near.

Welcome to our new team member

While Michelle has an extensive management background, her most recent experience has been enjoying serving customers in organic retail environments, including at Salamanca Market. Born in Bermuda, and
raised in a number of parts around the world, she moved from Queensland to Tassie a few years ago to make the most of the cooler climes and relaxed lifestyle. She has a passion for being around fresh
quality produce, a great sense of fun and an enjoyment of working with and for people. She's really keen to get to know more about us and how to best serve you...and she very much welcomes your feedback to help us keep building on our service to you.

Fruit and Veg news

We ran short of a few bits and pieces this week due to the shear number orders. Parsley and Salads were the main offenders and no mushrooms!

Be sure to check out Broad beans from Terry! They are super fresh!

We have some excellent Jonagold apples coming from Andrew Smith @ Raw orchards Grove. The Braeburns are now coming from Andrew also and the quality is far superior.

We had a nice surprise form Terry O’Neil (Wattle Grove, TAS) last week when he dropped in a reasonable quantity of super fresh, ultra delicious snow peas. He said that it is quite likely that he will have another good bundle for us this week. He has also picked up some amazing Chili’s this week! These are some unusually shaped chilis with great color and they pack some punch. They are full of dark seeds and quite fleshy!

Mangos Mangos Mangos. We should have the first of the season R2E2 variety Mangos available this week. R2E2’s are a very lage, sweet and fleshy mango with a good flavour and firmish flesh. They are big fruit so $5.95 ea price tag is all relevant to size making them great value.

Be sure to check out the first of the seasons cucumber coming out of South Australia. We have some excellent continentals and the king of cucumbers, The Lebanese! The price isn’t too bad given how early we are in the season.

The Zucchini price is starting to come down as we see more Victorian and NSW growers come into the market to bolster supply and help to bring down the supply. The freshness and flavour has been fantastic though the appearance isn’t perfect.

Tasmanian parsnips have been lacking in the last few weeks so we have chosen to move onto our mainland supplier. The price is a little more than we have been paying, but the quality and freshness is far superior!

Zucchini $8.50kg

Pineapple $6.95kg

Sweet potato gold $5.95kg

Other news

We are running short of some of the Spiral range of Pasta sauce. We are all out of Basil and garlic and running very low and Arribiatta. We are waiting on a shipment from Spiral foods which should arrive in the next week!

The flavored Mungalli Creek Yoghurt verities have become so popular that we going to continue stocking and expanding the range. We now have:
