Fruit and Veg news

Last week we were caught short on quite a few things. The Nectarine shipment was delayed and we did not receive our consignment until Friday. Cherries were not available at all due to crop failure related to weather issues

Fresh yellow peaches will be available from Matt Gooding at Sunripe orchards. The quality should be on par with the fantastic Nectarines we have been getting from Matt, so order with confidence.

Some fantastic Strawberries and Fresh garlic will be available form Wil at Sunday Hill Strawberry farm, Petcheys bay. Wil’s strawberry crop has been a little disappointing until now. The flavour of this fruit is outstanding. We will also be running a special on Wil’s fresh garlic. Now at $29 kg.

We have an abundance of whole lettuce available this week coming from many growers. It seems the warmish weather and precipitation provides great growing conditions for lettuce. We have iceberg, Cos and baby cos in plentiful supply and fantastic quality. At a great special price of $3.95 ea or 2 for $5.95

Kevin and Cindy Legg of Cadel, South Australia have started picking their stone fruit crop for this season. They have sent us their first batch of super sweet large apricots. As per usual with anything coming from Legg farm the quality is outstanding!

We are running a special on Gold sweet potato this week also. The price for these little lovelies will be at $3.95kg

Geoff Brown of Labertouche organics has been hard at it again and has come up trumps with his new season kale harvest! The quality is excellent and the bunches are of good size. We will be running a special this week at $3.95 per bunch.

Wombok cabbage is a new one for me. We have never had a grower successfully grow Wombok for us in the past! This time round we have hit a winner.

The Banana’s have been of great quality for the last 2 weeks which is a big relief. We suffered a few ripening issues for a couple of weeks and all the trouble looks to be sorted. The banana price looks to be falling as well with a slight drop in price from last week.

The nectarines coming from Matt at Sunripe orchards were fantastic last week! Although the Nectarines were still a little firm the flavour and sweetness were excellent.

Humphrey has been kind enough to search high and low through the lemon patch in his orchard to find us some summer lemons. They are a little hard to come by at this time of the year.

Andrew Smith (Raw orchards, Grove, Tasmania) has told me that he is really running low on apples now. We still have braeburns, Jonagolds, Sundowners, gala and Pink lady. Though he is packing gala and pink lady into 1kg bags as they are smaller fruit.

Yorktown organics have released their latest product. Micro Salads – a mixture of their sprouts range packaged up in 80g bags. They are such a delicious combination.

How about those kiwi fruit? They have been so popular and no surprises why? The flavor is excellent and they are such good value at .80c ea of 10 for $7.
