Greetings

Well we’re right in to the swing of the new year from the word go with plenty of orders last week to keep us busy. And how great is it to finally get some summer weather?

A huge apology for lots of grocery items missing from last week’s orders. It seems that suppliers and freight companies haven’t quite caught up after the break! We are hoping for a little more normality this week!

A special apology for the lack of Elgaar farm products. Once again the situation was out of our control and we are sorry for the inconvenience.

Fruit and Veg news

We will have some red seedless grapes on the list this week coming from Andrew Jones. They are the flame seedless variety and are outstanding!

The Kiwi season is over. We could still get Kiwi’s from Italy but are not very keen on the food miles so will be giving it a miss until next southern hemisphere season.

We have some lovely White flesh peaches coming from Matt Gooding at Sunripe fruits. We now have them a kg price making them a little more budget friendly than the last batch.

All is looking good for some fantastic Kensington Pride Mangos. I spoke to Gunter from Mangos R Us in Bundaberg and he has assured me that he despatched us our consignment to arrive with us on Tuesday. From all reports we are in for a treat!

It looks as though we may finally have the first of the season Tomatoes, although they just the cherry Tom’s to begin with. I can’t wait for some Avocado and Tomato on summer kitchen sourdough!

Green beans are back in and they are super crunchy and very sweet!

Be sure to check out the great new season Menindee seedless grapes coming from Andrew Jones. The Menindee seedless are an excellent eating seedless green grape. They are generally sweet with a touch of tartness to finish. They are bigger than a sultana grape which makes them less time consuming to pick of the bunch and stuff into ones mouth!!!

The weather has been cruel to the cherry (and berry) farmers this season. The Cherries we received before Christmas were of poor quality due to not enough sunshine and toooooo much rain at the wrong time. No Problems with that this week! The cherry’s we have coming this week are super crisp and loaded with sweetness.

As if this newsletter wasn’t making your tastebuds explode already! Brothers, Scott & Nigel Graham from Glenpatrick Organics in the Derwent Valley have finally started picking their famous raspberries. These two brothers have invested much time and effort into choosing the Very best Raspberry varieties and loading the soil with Organic composts and nutrients to ensure the maximum flavour and nutrients are locked into their special raspberries. They simply can’t be beaten!

More Berries!!!! Wil has started picking his Blueberry crop for 2009. They are loaded with flavour and sweetness. We are running a special price of $6.95 per punnet or 2 punnets for $12.

Paw paw is back on the menu also. We have been getting some amazing Red paw paw’s from Rose in Lemon springs Far north Queensland.

The Basil has finally started. The Jackson family of Yorktown organics have started picking their much anticipated basil crop.

The Carrot season has come back to Tassie. Thank goodness. We were all getting a little tired of the hit and miss nature of the mainland carrot supply. We are back to the best and sweetest carrots from the Benson family of Forest Hill Farms.

The Local Zucchini is flowing thick and fast and the price is so cheap! Check it out for the great price of $3.95 kg.

Some fantastic Strawberries and Fresh garlic will be available form Wil at Sunday Hill Strawberry farm, Petcheys bay. Wil’s strawberry crop has been a little disappointing until now. The flavour of this fruit is outstanding. We will also be running a special on Wil’s fresh garlic. Now at $29 kg.

We have an abundance of whole lettuce available this week coming from many growers. It seems the warmish weather and precipitation provides great growing conditions for lettuce. We have iceberg, Cos and baby cos in plentiful supply and fantastic quality. At a great special price of $3.95 ea or 2 for $5.95

Geoff Brown of Labertouche organics has been hard at it again and has come up trumps with his new season kale harvest! The quality is excellent and the bunches are of good size. We will be running a special this week at $3.95 per bunch.

Yorktown organics have released their latest product. Micro Salads – a mixture of their sprouts range packaged up in 80g bags. They are such a delicious combination.
