Greetings and Happy winter

Time to stoke up the fire and put a pot of soup on the stove as we settle into the Tassie winter for another year.

I’m writing this newsletter from Newcastle this week as I have had to dash up here to visit a sick friend, so please excuse me if the letter is some what brief and a little repetitive of last weeks newsletter

Well with the winter months on us we are suffering a bit of a shortage of fruit. The list should build up a little again in the coming weeks as the citrus comes on line again. As for veggies we have just about seen the last of the autumn crops and now we move into the brassicas and root vegetables.

Our warehouse is open for sales 3 days a week at the moment. See opening hours listed below.

OPENING HOURS

Tuesday 9am – 6pm

Thursday 9am – 6pm

Friday 9am – 6pm

Fruit and Veg news

Apologies for this week: We had little to no bananas available again this week due to supply issues and flooding in northern NSW. Things should return to some normality this week. Shitake mushrooms where unavailable, as were crimson seedless grapes.

Specials

Garlic purple $29.00kg

Pac Choi (2 per bunch) $3.50ea

Pineapple $7.95kg

Jap Pumpkin $1.95kg

Parsnips $7.95kg

The biggest and best news of this week is that the Navel orange season has kicked off for us. We have the best variety of Navel first in the season, that’s the Leng navel. Humphrey and Michelle Howie of Fat goose fruits, Renmark ,South Australia grow our citrus and fortunately still have a lot of the older varieties of fruit in there orchard, hence our luck in having the Leng navel available to us. Purchase with confidence! Available loose or in 3kg nets.

With the cold weather the Chinese greens are now becoming readily available. We have a good supply of Pac and Boc choi this week. Perfect for some yummy laksa’s or Asian based stir frys.

Parsnips (Jim Bell of Forth, northern Tas) have come down in price this week as they begin to peak in the paddocks.

Mushrooms are also in good supply at the moment and they have been arriving in great condition.

The amazing Romanesco Cauliflowers (Morrie Caffra, Caffresco Organics, Kooweerup, Victoria) are back on the list again. The price is still up a little as we are at the beginning of the season. The Amazing conical patterns provide a real novelty in the veggie boxes as they do on dinner plate. Must be seen to be believed.

Be sure to check out the wonderful winter lettuce we have in stock. We have an abundance of Cos and Iceberg lettuce, (Geoff Brown, Labertouche Organics, Labertouche, Victoria) perfect with a nice leafy salad sandwich.

We still have a reasonable quantity of garlic (Scott and Nigel Graham, Glenpatrick Organics, Lachlan, TAS) around, but only for another few weeks. The garlic really wants to be growing at this time of year so there may be the occasion sprout. If you are keen on planting some now is the time.

Don’t miss out on the super sweet and ultra crunchy carrots (Benson Family, Forest Hill Farm, Forth, Tasmania) we have in stock.

Be sure to check out the gourmet potatoes we have in stock this week. Coming from Jim Bell of Forth, North Western Tasmania. Kipfler and purple congos are on the menus.

We have a new variety of apple joining the list. Along side the Gala’s and Goldens we will have Mutsu. The Mutsu Apple has a moderately sweet flavor with firm, juicy and creamy white flesh. Its skin colour is a yellowish green with an orange blush. The Mutsu apple is also known as Crispin. This apple is vigorous, fairly early, and the fruit is large and oblong shaped. It is excellent for fresh eating, sauces, pies, and baking. This apple stores and keeps well.

Hello and welcome to another week in Organic land.

Once again we have had a great week here at The All Organic Farm, being kept busy with your home delivery orders, market preparations and of course the warehouse/shop.

With the cooler weather setting now we are starting to see the produce list diminishing. A lot of the summer goodies are on the way and we haven’t quite caught up with the winter one yet. We should see the fruit list in particular becoming repopulated as the citrus season kicks of in the next week or two.

Listed below are our warehouse trading hours:

OPENING HOURS

Tuesday 9am – 6pm

Thursday 9am – 6pm

Friday 9am – 6pm

Just a word of warning, we are experiencing some season fluctuations in the banana supply at the moment. So the price is up and the supply is very sporadic. Hopefully things will return to normal shortly.

Be sure to check out the gourmet potatoes we have in stock this week. Coming from Jim Bell of Forth, North Western Tasmania. Kipfler and purple congos are on the menus.

We still have a great supply of super juicy crimson seedless grapes coming from Robinvale.

The lady fingers bananas are super sweet and coming thick and fast.

The cold weather is here and now is the time for some of those delicious winter stews full of lovely root vegetables like parsnips, Swedes and turnips.

Super special on Jap pumpkins this week. Down to $1.95 kg

Rob and Gaye Van Den Berg from Seaview orchard are still harvesting their delicious Tazzieberries. The season won’t last for long so get in while you still can!

Watermelon is still in abundance so make most of that last taste of summer.

We have the first of the season’s Chinese greens coming on. The Pac choi we have this week is so fresh and crisp.

Although we missed out altogether on Cucumbers last week we have been assured that the crop has caught up and we will have a good supply for this week.

The sweet corn supply has been a little sporadic but last week we finally received some and the quality was fantastic! We should have more of the same this week.

Yorktown organics have released their latest product. Micro Salads – a mixture of their sprouts range packaged up in 80g bags. They are such a delicious combination.
