Welcome to the weekend.

Another rainy wet weekend it is….. What an amazing month of rain we have been having. Hobart’s average rainfall for June is usually 54mm but we have had 142mm and we still have a few days left in the month! I’m not complaining thats for sure, we do need it, but I really wish it wouldn’t rain on SaturdaysJ.

Well we had a pretty good week for produce last week with a lot of the winter goodies on line now and the fruit list is looking abundant! Unfortunately we were without any Yorktown organics produce last week. This was due to the cold and wet conditions slowing down growth. They should be back online again this week.

Our warehouse is open for sales 3 days a week at the moment. See opening hours listed below.

OPENING HOURS

Tuesday 9am – 6pm

Thursday 9am – 6pm

Friday 9am – 6pm

We have plenty of kale coming on at the moment. We have some lovely bunches of Red and Green Curley kale on special for $3.50 a bunch as well as a new arrival – Cavelo nero or black kale.

Both Varieties of sweet potato are on special this week also. Excellent quality at a great price $5.25 kg

We have some paw paw in stock finally. It feels like an eternity since we have had paw paw actually show up. Best served with lime juice!

Well we are really in the thick of it with the citrus season now! Humphrey Howie of Fat Goose Fruits Renmark is our grower and he has been a busy boy picking this week. We now have Imperial mandarins, Native blood limes, Yellow grapefruit, Lemons, Limes, 3kg Navel nets as well as loose leng Navels by the kg. Next time a write to you we should also have the first of the Imperial mandys.

Daikon Radish is wintertime favourite and has made a return to the availability list this week. Daikon is traditional for Japanese cooking and is a wonderful addition to Miso soup. Try it in Stir Frys and grated finely in a salad.

We finally have a supply of Russian garlic coming in. Much milder in flavour in comparison to the purple. Fantastic for using raw in salads.

Be sure to check the lovely winter Cole pears we have coming in from Chris Steenholdt of Petcheys Bay.

With the cold weather the Chinese greens are now becoming readily available. We have a good supply of Pac and Boc choi this week. Perfect for some yummy laksa’s or Asian based stir frys.

Parsnips (Jim Bell of Forth, northern Tas) have come down in price this week as they begin to peak in the paddocks.

Mushrooms are also in good supply at the moment and they have been arriving in great condition.

We still have a reasonable quantity of garlic (Scott and Nigel Graham, Glenpatrick Organics, Lachlan, TAS) around, but only for another few weeks. The garlic really wants to be growing at this time of year so there may be the occasion sprout. If you are keen on planting some now is the time.

Don’t miss out on the super sweet and ultra crunchy carrots (Benson Family, Forest Hill Farm, Forth, Tasmania) we have in stock.

Be sure to check out the gourmet potatoes we have in stock this week. Coming from Jim Bell of Forth, North Western Tasmania. Kipfler and purple congos are on the menus.

Happy weekend!

Well I don’t wont to be one to complain about the rain but for the last 4 weeks we have had wet Saturdays at Salamanca market and although it’s a little damp today, it’s not raining as such, which I lovely. Let it rain any other day J

Last week was a difficult week for fresh produce, by this I mean that due to the public holiday on Monday a lot of the road transport network was not operating and nor could farmers afford to pay the penalty rates applied to workers wages, so we ran a little short on a few things. See apologies below.

Great news is that Elgaar Farm Dairy (Deloraine, Tas) is finally back on line with their milk production, so all things going according to plan we will have dairy for you this week! I have also updated the list of cheese to reflect what we have in stock at the moment. We will also be stocking some Biodynamic milk from Victoria due to strong demand for these products.

Our warehouse is open for sales 3 days a week at the moment. See opening hours listed below.

Greetings and welcome to a wet wet weekend

How wonderful is it to have this rain! Farmers all over Tassie are getting the winter rains they have been needing for the last few years all in a week! Great news!!

An update on Elgaar farm: They have been suffering some issues with their hot water system in there packaging plant and have elected to replace the whole system which has caused them some serious downtime. This means no milk delivery last week and this week. Fear not, we have some fantastic Biodynamic milk coming in from Victoria as a replacement and have plenty of the Mungalli yoghurts in stock!

Our warehouse is open for sales 3 days a week at the moment. See opening hours listed below.

OPENING HOURS

Tuesday 9am – 6pm

Thursday 9am – 6pm

Friday 9am – 6pm

Well with the winter months on us we are suffering a bit of a shortage of fruit. The list should build up a little again in the coming weeks as the citrus comes on line again. As for veggies we have just about seen the last of the autumn crops and now we move into the brassicas and root vegetables.

Fruit and Veg news

Apologies for this week: Dutch carrots were not available, nor were lady fingers, pears, grapes and corn.

Specials

Garlic purple $29.00kg

Coriander bags $3.95 ea

Pineapple $7.95kg

Jap Pumpkin $1.95kg

Parsnips $7.95kg

This week should see the return of some grapes. We will have some Biodynamic Red Globe Grapes coming from Robinvale orchards. These grapes are large and sweet!

We finally have a supply of Russian garlic coming in. Much milder in flavour in comparison to the purple. Fantastic for using raw in salads.

Purple sweet potato is also back on the list this week.

Be sure to check the lovely winter Cole pears we have coming in from Chris Steenholdt of Petcheys Bay.

The biggest and best news of this week is that the Navel orange season has kicked off for us. We have the best variety of Navel first in the season, that’s the Leng navel. Humphrey and Michelle Howie of Fat goose fruits, Renmark ,South Australia grow our citrus and fortunately still have a lot of the older varieties of fruit in there orchard, hence our luck in having the Leng navel available to us. Purchase with confidence! Available loose or in 3kg nets.

The amazing Romanesco Cauliflowers (Morrie Caffra, Caffresco Organics, Kooweerup, Victoria) are back on the list again. The price is still up a little as we are at the beginning of the season. The Amazing conical patterns provide a real novelty in the veggie boxes as they do on dinner plate. Must be seen to be believed.

Be sure to check out the wonderful winter lettuce we have in stock. We have an abundance of Cos and Iceberg lettuce, (Geoff Brown, Labertouche Organics, Labertouche, Victoria) perfect with a nice leafy salad sandwich.
